Serial Experiments Lain este un anime unic. Asa ceva nu am mai vazut si, in plus, imi este foarte greu sa il compar cu ceva pentru a va da o idee cam despre ce este vorba. Sa zic Matrix 1? Cypher?  Alte filme cu hiper-super computere colorate, bipuitoare, americane? Nimic de-a face… Tot ceea ce ati vazut pana acum in domeniul acesta (interactiune computer-om, cyberspace, VR etc.) paleste grav in fata acestui serial.

Neajuns nici macar de exceptionalul Ghost in the Shell sau excelentul Texhnolyze, parerea mea!, Serial Experiments Lain pune niste intrebari si ridica niste probleme absolut… Bah, adevarul este ca descrierile pe care le-am citit pana acum au fost incapabile sa ofere o viziune concreta asupra SEL. Ba bai mult: au recunoscut acest lucru.

Asadar, pe langa faptul ca este unica animatie care sa citeze din Proust, SEL trateaza chestiuni ca:

  • Timothy Leary + 8-Circuit Model of Consciousness

SEL este structurat nu in episoade ci in  Layers, fiecare Layer tratand despre o tema aparte, acest lucru insa neproducand fisuri in structura generala a filmului:

  • Layer 04: Religion
  • Layer 05: Distortion
  • Layer 06: Kids
  • Layer 07: Society
  • Layer 08: Rumors
  • Layer 09: Protocol

  • Layer 12: Landscape
  • Layer 13: Ego

Fascinant este conceptul de Wired, un fel de Next Generation Internet in care sunt incluse nu doar computerele, ci si rezonantele Schumann [despre care Tesla scria ca pot fi utlizate pentru "power transmission and transmission of intelligible messages to any point on the globe" adaugand ca "seem as the Creator himself had electrically designed this planet" (aici).] etc, etc. Mai multe gasiti pe Net, evident.

Ceea ce va sfatuiesc eu este sa nu va limitati la un DL de pe net (.avi, .mkv), ci sa va faceti rost de DVD-urile originale (contin o multime de extra-uri):

Asadar, pentru toti cei cu interese in antropologie, sociologie, filosofie, teologie, SEL este o statie obligatorie.

Interesant ce scria Ian Buruma in ultimul numar din NYRB referindu-se la tinerii japonezi (dar chestiunea este aplicabila nu doar lor):

Eu nu sunt chiar atat de critic la adresa unei astfel de probleme. Imi pare ca americanii, cam intotdeauna cand iau in calcul aceste chestiuni, fac referinta doar la cazurile extreme gen otaku si hikikomori, negandindu-se ca totusi lumea merge inainte, indiferent de dorintele si nostalgiile unor astfel de analisti.
