Cine nu a auzit de Jaron Lanier? O gramada de lume a auzit, mai ales ca tipul este o figura deosebit de simpatica in peisajul AI, VR si muzica asiatica. Cine nu a auzit de Wikipedia, vechea noastra prietena?  In mod sigur, cred ca a auzit o gramada si mai mare decat prima.

Gramezile de oameni in societatea contemporana… Jaron a dat un interviu acum cativa ani, 2006, la postul de radio australian ABC National in cadrul emisiunii The Philosopher’s zone unde a punctat cateva chestiuni interesante referitoare la fenomenul Wiki si relatia sa cu gandirea economica. Iata cateva formulari care mi-au atras atentia - sublinierile imi apartin:

# The Wikipedia, as a single object, is not evil, it’s not particularly anything, but it represents a new philosophy that I think is dismally bad. But as for what the Wikipedia itself is, it’s a collectivist encyclopædia.

# The central idea of this culture is that the individual author is not as wise as a collectivist process, and so we should give up on the idea that some single person is going to write a great article on the topic, and instead we should have a large number of unpaid volunteers, and then something called the wisdom of crowds will make itself manifest, and we’ll end up with a superior document.

# I think what Turing thought is that a computer is something that has the sort of crystalline, eternal quality; it’s not sexualised, it doesn’t face all of the torments and ambiguities of these mortal sexual creatures that we call humans, so why not identify with it instead. Why not seek to become it? And that quality of retreating from what it is to be human has characterised what I would call the nerd culture ever since.

# The way that digital culture affects the world is different from the way previous cultures affected the world. What happens with digital stuff is it’s not so much what people like me or anyone else says, but it’s the structure of the tools we use. And since the Internet and computers are what connect us with each other and they’re what connect us with our own memories more and more, you can have ideas that are built into the very structure of the tools that become quite important.
